Martin Cardno saves the day after girls destroy Lanna’s top order

Lanna Seniors 125/9

Martin Cardno 49*, Nai 3/20

Lanna Juniors 108/3

Beem 37

Lanna Seniors
won by 17 runs

The second match of the day saw multiple changes in the teams and in the batting orders as the three leading Juniors got a well deserved rest and all four girls were promoted into the team. Lanna again batted first with two juniors added to their line-up to make sure that everybody had a game during the day.

The Seniors were soon 37 for 6 with Nai taking three wickets and Nok and Aree keeping up the pressure with a wicket apiece with poor Por let down by some bad calling from Locky who was given a rare chance to open the batting.

Martin Cardno was down at number eight but made his second 40 of the day but he kept his pads on as wickets continued to fall and returned to hit two more fours to finish on 49 not out as the Seniors reached 125 for 9 which had seemed highly unlikely earlier in the innings. Nai could be proud of her figures of 3 for 20 and Sangdaw bowled two lovely overs of leg-spin towards the end and ended a useful innings from Adrian Crump who came in at number 10.

Runs on the board meant that Locky also had the chance to open the bowling and rewarded his captain’s faith by taking a wicket and no fewer than nine bowlers were able to turn their arms over including Neil Whitehead who took a wicket with his first ball for the club.

Lamphun coach Chris Dodd would have been tearing his hair out about his team’s middle and lower-order batting but Beem and Leng showed they had potential with the bat as they shared a partnership of 75 for the second wicket. Beem hit six fours in his innings of 37 and Leng made 22 not as the Juniors did well to reach 108 for 3 in their 15 overs.

Lanna Seniors had gained their second victory of the day by 17 runs but the two matches had allowed the Lamphun girls and boys plenty of practice and the players of Lanna Seniors and Juniors had all had a highly enjoyable day.
