Pattaya win the battle of the touring teams

Patong 113/7

Pattaya 117/1

Dan Nicholson 33*, John Spires 48*

Pattaya
won by 9 wickets

The third match of the day saw the two touring teams face each other and Patong had another chance to improve on their batting but weren’t able to take it as they were restricted to 113 for 7. Anthony van Blerk played a sheet anchor role to show his broken hand had brought a lack of power in his strokeplay but the two Daves, Thomas and Watson, did hit some boundaries to get the total above the 100 after young fast bowler Hamza and experienced medium pacer Johnny G had both taken two early wickets.

Johnny G then got Pattaya’s reply off to a fast start as he hit 15 from six balls but it was left to Dan Nicholson (33) and John Spires (48) to take their side to a convincing nine-wicket victory with Nicolson batting steadily and Spires hitting nine fours in 27 balls to complete a fine all-round day for him. Cher was given a came for Patong as Richard Folds graciously stood down and he opened the batting and the bowling and was their only wicket-taker.

At the end of the first day’s competition, Gymkhana, Lanna and Pattaya had all won one match and were level on two points with Patong just behind.
