Parents win again in the 8th annual LIST Parents v Teachers match

Lanna International School (LIST) have been great supporters of Chiang Mai Lanna Cricket Club over the so it was a great occasion when the Parents beat the Teachers when LIST came to Gymkhana for their annual match for the eighth year in a row.

Hugh Williams as always put a great deal of effort into the Parents v Teachers Match which was originally planned for Sunday 31st January but all his plans which included selecting two evenly balanced teams and arranging for Chairman Tom Salusbury to provide a post-match lunch were suddenly in doubt with heavy overnight rain leaving parts of the ground flooded.

Action was quickly taken to cancel the match and the afternoon friendly that followed so that the driving range could be re-opened and the two teams and the officials all returned two weeks later thankful that the weather was set fair. The lunch did not go to waste as it was all taken into school on Monday morning and Tom went back into the kitchen to provide a second sitting.

All that drama was worthwhile as a high quality contest was played and the LIST Parents took a five-three lead in the eight-match series with a hard fought six wicket victory as reached 151 for 4 to overcome the Teachers’ total of 149 for 3.

Martin Papworth and Lindsay Stevenson retired after reaching 30 for the Teachers. Hugh Williams fell to the promising bowling of young Duan but Annabel Christian made sure the innings finished with a flourish with an unbeaten 18.

Although Ant Robertson was dismissed for just five, Nik Shah got the Parents’ innings off to a flier with 30 from just 13 balls with seven fours. Colin Harlow had returned from working in Indonesia to captain the Parents team and made a steady 22 in partnership with Jon Danby who showed that his batting had been under-estimated for all these years by making 30 from 29 balls.

Angelo is another developing Thai cricketer who had earlier bowled well with the new ball and he saw the Parents home to victory in a match in which exactly 300 runs had been scored. All Hugh’s efforts had again paid dividends in a wonderful morning’s cricket and he promised that next year he would lead the Teachers to victory.

Thanks go from all at Chiang Mai Lanna CC to Lanna International School for their continued support and we are delighted that we can host the annual LIST Teachers v Parents match at Gymkhana and we are looking forward to another special occasion next year.

Thank you particularly to Hugh Williams for his great perseverance and to LIST Head of School Roy Lewis who watched proceedings at Gymkhana Club and made the presentations at the end of the match. Several junior cricketers played in the morning match and a good number of the players in the Parents v Teachers match remained at the ground to play in the afternoon friendly and have taken part in other local matches during the season.

We are delighted that relations between CMLCC and LIST remain so close in difficult times.
