LIST Parents v Teachers Cricket 2019: New Faces Shine!

As Hugh Williams writes, congratulations go to the Teacher’s Team winning another exciting match at the 6th Annual LIST Parents v Teachers Cricket at the beautiful Gymkhana Club last weekend. The Parent XI batted first and despite losing Mark Rossiter (4) early on, Johnnie Rogerson (15) and Cameron Ewart (17) looked like setting a foundation for a big score. Mr Hugh then caught Johnnie and Cameron holed out to Mr Alex in the deep, but when the usually big hitting Ant Robertson was out without scoring, the teachers suddenly found themselves well placed.

New face Bruce Haxton quickly brought them down to Earth however clobbering a quick 30, with handy support from another new face Sompol Chaiprathum (28). Chas Begley (11 not out) held his end up nicely as Mark Bebb came and went. When John the Baseball player also went, Bruce Haxton (54 not out) returned to the crease picking up where he left off clubbing 24 more runs and thus becoming the first player to score a 50! Despite 2 brilliant overs, Miss Annabel remained wicket-less with the wickets nicely shared by the teacher’s bowling attack and the Parent XI finished with7 for 169.

The Teacher XI needed a good start and another new face, ‘borrowed parent’ Nikil Shah (33 not out) showed his class to smash his way to providing just that. Johnnie Rogerson returned a favour with a sharp catch to dismiss Mr Hugh (14), and Mr Lindsay (12) edged one through to the keeper during a tricky spell of bowling from Chas Begley (2/11). With the score 2/82 the game was evenly poised. Unfortunately for the Parent XI, wickets were at a premium and despite John the Baseball player’s attempts to pitch them out, the Teacher XI batsman went on with the job.

Mr Warrie (30 not out), Martin Papworth (29 not out) and Mr Alex (12 not out) bringing the Cup back to the Teacher XI in the final over of the match +nishing 2/173.Bruce Haxton was named Player-of-the-Match, Most Valuable Player awards going to Sompol Chaiprathum (Parent XI) & Nikil Shah (Teacher XI) – all receiving a free dinner at Sheryle’s Restaurant. Big thanks to Mr Mike Graham & the PTO for their generous sponsorship, umpires Cher and Yot, Mr Tom from CMLCC for the splendid lunch, scorers Puy and Pin and of course all the parents, teachers and children that came along for this enjoyable Lanna School community event.

All at Lanna give their thanks to Hugh and Lanna International School for their generous sponsorship of the club. We are glad that all involved enjoyed themselves so much and that it gave the juniors and the ladies the chance to play matches later in the afternoon.
