Lanna A’s team effort too much even for Martin Cardno

Lanna B 145/8

Martin Cardno 31, Adrian Ballantyne 37, Chai 2/15, Locky 2/14

Lanna A
won by 71 runs

An enjoyable warm-up for the big party at Chris Coombes’ house was held at the David Buck Oval as Lanna staged a 25-over friendly on a perfect batting wicket. Lanna A gave a strong batting effort as Jun and Choo shared an opening stand of 49 and Choo was then joined by Jon Scales and both just missed out on their fifties. Richard Cowles continued the good work and he retired on reaching his half-century and even Matt Bray and Elliott Lodge made runs at the end of the innings as the total reached 216 for 4.

Martin Cardno was a happy man as there were enough runs on the board for him to mark his first visit to Chiang Mai of the year with a century. His confidence almost backfired as he was close to being lbw to the first ball of the innings. Champ batted steadily but when Cardno was bowled by Jun for 31 the match was under control for Lanna A. Adrian Ballantyne made 37 in his final innings of the season before heading back to Cornwall and Locky was even able to bring himself on to claim the prized wicket of rival captain Eddie.

Lanna A won by the convincing margin of 71 runs and the first case of Leo bought to take to the party was consumed before the sun went down and we headed off to our big night out.
