won by 38 runs

There was an early start to the Gymkhana friendly so that the ladies could continue their preparations for the Chiang Mai Sixes, and a good day was had by all as CMCC beat Lanna by 38 runs in the men’s match before the ladies showed off their improving skills at the end of the day.

CMCC had a point to prove ias they had finished their league campaign with only one win in three matches, but they were determined to show their true capabilities to the Lanna team which had recently defeated them in the league match at Prem

CMCC had assembled their best team of the season with Ubaid and Ismail both in the side but Lanna fought strongly after being on the back foot from the start as Amaar rode his luck to make 50 and help the more cultured Ubaid share an opening stand of 99 in less than 10 overs.

Daeng can be very proud of his two wickets as he dismissed Ubaid for 55 and Ismail for 22. Lanna’s catching had been terrible at the start with Jun the most unlucky bowler, before he decided to show his team mates how it was done and caught four out of four as CMCC’s batsmen tried to clear him at long on but failed.

224 for 6 from 25 overs was a useful score but not an impossible target for Lanna, as Adam Green and Chris Coombes gave their team a good start which was built on by Jun and Richard Cowles but Ubaid claimed three wickets with his left-arm spin to add to his innings of 50 and Lanna fell short on 186 for 7.

Over 400 runs had been scored in the afternoon at 8 runs an over and this was not the end of the day’s entertainment as the ladies played a practice match as they prepared for the Ladies Cup at the Sixes. Each pair batted for two overs and better bowlers could bowl two overs apiece and the new rules seemed to work well.

Ting tang, who will be playing for Thai Angels was the star of the match but members of the Chiang Mai Chassies (CMCCC) and the new Beaverettes team showed that the Ladies Cup will be stronger than ever in 2016 particularly as there are two more Friday net practices and another priactice match still to come.
