Sunday’s match was a more social 20-over encounter against Gymkhana Club as the Oswald Duvel Trophy was contested for the first time. The match started early to allow for the necessary ceremonials after the match and Gymkhana Club chose to bat when they won the toss.

Sufi reached an elegant fifty from 42 balls to finish his school holiday back in Chiang Mai in style while Liam Woolls has recently arrived in the city to join his brother Tim and although he struggled with his timing he still made an unbeaten 40 to see Gymkhana to a more than useful total of 142 for 4 with the Parrots generously using 10 bowlers.

The Parrots had shown on Saturday they had great depth in their batting so the target was manageable even without Kiwi who was supporting from the sidelines. The openers fell early but the Beast, Brett Taylor, faced with some hostile bowling from Liam Woolls, survived to hit four sixes in his fifty.

Jubby and Strunky both made runs again but the young Thai boys all bowled tidily and the Parrots fell short by 17 runs as they posted a total of 125 for 4. The trophy was presented to Gymkhana captain Chris Coombes but would be returning to Bangkok with the Parrots until their next visit.

Kiwi paid tribute to his good friend Oswald who had been a wonderful human being and players from both sides, and many of the Parrots’ supporters, enjoyed a long slammer session as the sun went down over Gymkhana Club. The Parrots will soon return to Chiang Mai for a Bangkok League match against the Southerners and it is hoped that the match against Gymkhana Club will become an annual fixture so they could remember their friend who had been lost too soon.
