The Parrots, as Siam Cricket Club in Bangkok, are better known, are welcome visitors to Chiang Mai each year but their visit in 2013 was a very poignant occasion as a memorial trophy had been established in honour of one of the Parrots’ most popular players Oswald Duvel who had made his debut at Gymkhana Club in 2012 but had tragically died later in the year.

The weekend’s cricket against the Parrots started with a highly competitive 35-over contest against Chiang Mai Cricket Club at Traidhos Oval. The Parrots were put into bat and were soon struggling at 12 for two and worse was to follow as Richard Bowater pushed forward to Ismail only to suffer a broken left wrist.

Kiwi is a mainstay of Siam CC and had done much to organize the tour but while he was off to hospital his team-mates rebuilt the innings with Poz and Jubby taking the score past 100 and Nahim and Strunky applying the acceleration so that a highly satisfactory total of 208 for 5 was achieved.

After a substantial lunch had been enjoyed it was CMCC’s turn at the crease and they also got off to a bad start with Wani run out without facing a ball but his son Sufi fared better with 22 from 28 balls. Ismail made 34 from 46 balls but the innings of the day was played by Siddarth who hit an unbeaten 73 from 63 balls. Monty kept the chase going but it was Makki who brought CMCC home with 19 from just 7 balls, finishing the game in style with a six.
